Registration thru Postal Vote BD app extended till 31 December
According to data published on the EC’s website, a total of 683,963 voters had registered through the app as of 7pm today
The Election Commission (EC) has extended the registration deadline through the Postal Vote BD app until 31 December, pushing it back from the earlier deadline of 25 December.
EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the decision while speaking to journalists at the Election Building today (24 December).
He also said the EC has requested Bangladesh Bank to keep scheduled banks open on Saturday to facilitate matters related to the submission of nomination papers, including necessary banking transactions.
"Banks will remain open on Saturday in view of the election. Bangladesh Bank will oversee the matter," Akhtar Ahmed said.
He added that the decision was taken to ensure smooth payment of security deposits by candidates, as 29 December is the last day for submitting nomination papers for the parliamentary election.
Responding to a question on whether the reception rally organised to mark BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's return to the country would violate the electoral code of conduct, the EC secretary said, "That will be determined by the returning officers. We want everyone to comply with the code of conduct."
The Postal Vote BD app is being used for postal voting registration by Bangladeshi expatriates, officials and employees engaged in election duties, and government employees staying outside their respective constituencies.
According to data published on the EC's website, a total of 683,963 voters had registered through the app as of 7pm today.
