Red Crescent working in the service of humanity: State Minister for Relief
This year, the award was given to 69 volunteers from all over the country for their special contribution in humanitarian activities from 2018 to 2020
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Mohammad Enamur Rahman said the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is working regularly in the service of humanity along with the government.
Red Crescent volunteers came forward to rescue the injured and killed in the Rana Plaza accident and its volunteers assisted Enam Medical College Hospital with the blood needed for medical treatment and in rescuing those injured and killed in the accident, the state minister said at a view exchange meeting on the formulation of the Society's 6th Five Year Strategic Plan and the awarding of Best Volunteer Award 2020.

As the chief guest at the programme held at Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital Auditorium on Monday, he also said Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country and the Red Crescent's seven lakh volunteers are working to help the helpless and victims in any disaster. The role of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society in disaster management deserves praise.
Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Hafiz Ahmad Majumder presided over the function and said volunteers are the main driving force of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. In any natural or man-made disaster, Red Crescent volunteers continue to serve as front-line fighters. This award recognition of the work done by volunteers in human welfare.
Prof Dr Habibe Millat, Vice Chairman, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, said in the Covid-19 situation, the volunteers of Red Crescent have disinfected various hospitals and government and non-government organisations across the country.
Delegates from 64 districts and four city units of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, heads of IFRC and ICRC in Bangladesh and representatives of national societies of different countries and more than 100 volunteers from all over the country including the capital were present on the occasion.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Treasurer Lutfur Rahman Chowdhury Helal, Members of the Managing Board of the Society, IFRC Acting Head of Country Office Sanjib Salahuddin, Deputy Secretary General Mohammad Rafiqul Islam spoke among others.
At the end of the discussion, the chief guest handed over the medals, crests and certificates to the best volunteers.
