Ramadan begins tomorrow in Saudi Arabia
Meanwhile, the Islamic Foundation in Bangladesh released a calendar marking 19 February as the first day of Ramadan.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will start observing the holy month of Ramadan from tomorrow (18 February) as the crescent moon has been sighted in the country today.
The announcement came after reports from moon sighting committees followed, in accordance with Islamic tradition.
On the other hand, Oman will observe Ramadan from Thursday as the crescent moon was not sighted in the country.
The Hilal Vision Committee in Japan also confirmed that Ramadan will commence on 19 February after failing to verify the sighting of the crescent moon.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Foundation in Bangladesh released a calendar marking 19 February as the first day of Ramadan.
However, Director of the Religious Outreach and Culture Department at the Islamic Foundation, Mohammad Harunur Rashid, said that the National Moon Sighting Committee has yet to decide on the matter, and the committee's meeting is set to be held tomorrow evening.
"If the moon is sighted in the sky over Bangladesh tomorrow evening, then Tarawih prayers will begin from tomorrow night, and people will have Sehri the following night before dusk," he said.
Muslims worldwide are getting ready to welcome a sacred month marked by self-restraint, devotion and generosity.
Throughout Ramadan, believers abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset, spend more time in prayer and reflection, and place special emphasis on helping those in need.
