Rail line repairs at Nakhalpara disrupt train services to and from Dhaka, leaving hundreds stranded
Kamalapur Station Master said trains have resumed running on both lines from 8:30am and efforts are underway to gradually fix the schedule.
Reconstruction work on both sides of the rail tracks at Tejgaon's Nakhalpara level crossing severely disrupted train services to and from Dhaka today (3 December), leaving hundreds stranded.
Only a limited number of trains were allowed to pass through using temporary arrangements, while overall operations remained largely suspended.
Between 4am and 11am, only three of the 11 scheduled trains departed from Kamalapur Railway Station, according to railway officials.
The suspension caused heavy overcrowding at Dhaka Airport Railway Station, where thousands of passengers waited for hours without clear information about delays. Many were ultimately forced to cancel or postpone their journeys as trains failed to arrive on time.
Kamalapur Station Master Mohammad Anwar Hossain said, "Due to the culvert repair work in Tejgaon, train operations were conducted on a 'single line' from 12:30am to 4:30am today. As the work was delayed, disruptions occurred in train movement from 4:30am to 8:30am as well."
He further said trains have resumed running on both lines from 8:30am and efforts are underway to gradually fix the schedule. and efforts are underway to gradually fix the schedule. "We hope the schedule will return to normal soon. We apologise to our esteemed passengers for the temporary inconvenience."
