Qatar-based expat rescued within 2 hours of abduction in Ctg; RAB detains 4
Legal proceedings against the detainees are underway.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued a Qatar-based expatriate engineer who had been abducted and taken to a jungle area in Chattogram yesterday (7 June) within just two hours of the incident.
Four people were also detained during the operation, confirmed Lieutenant Commander Md Towhidul Islam of RAB-7.
According to the RAB official, Monirul Haque, a graduate of Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet), left his residence in Chandgaon's Dighirpar around 11am on Saturday for personal work.
When he failed to return home, his family searched for him at various locations.
Unable to trace him, they filed a general diary (GD) at Chandgaon Police Station and sought assistance from RAB.
Meanwhile, an unidentified caller contacted the family, claiming that Monirul was being held captive and demanding Tk3 lakh in ransom for his release, Towhidul said.
Following the ransom demand, RAB-7 launched an intelligence-led investigation and intensified surveillance efforts.
Later, around 6pm, a raid was conducted in a jungle near the south gate of a warehouse adjacent to the Railway Training Academy area under Bandar Police Station.
Towhidul said the victim was rescued unharmed and four suspects were detained after their location was identified through intelligence gathering and technology-based tracking.
Legal proceedings against the detainees are underway, the RAB official said, adding that efforts are continuing to determine whether any other individuals were involved in the abduction.
