Protesters lift Dhaka–Aricha Highway blockade after an hour over fellow driver's murder
They claimed no suspects had been arrested yet.

Protesters withdrew their blockade of the Dhaka–Aricha Highway in Savar this afternoon (29 August), about an hour after staging the demonstration demanding the arrest and punishment of those responsible for the murder of a fellow driver.
The drivers and transport workers of the Shah Cement company took to the highway at Bishmail around 3pm, carrying banners of "Shah Cement Company Drivers' Association" and "Nirjatito Motor Shramik Ekota Oikya Drivers", halting traffic in both directions and creating a long tailback.
However, the blockade was lifted around 4pm following police intervention.
Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saleh Ahmed told The Business Standard, "The protesters mainly demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the killing. We spoke to them and assured that a case is underway and police are working on the matter."
After discussions, they agreed to withdraw the blockade, the OC added.
During the blockade, protesters alleged that on 25 August, covered van driver Shamim Hossain, 30, stopped his vehicle in Bishmail to rest when he was attacked by muggers.
They claimed no suspects had been arrested yet.
On 25 August, the covered van driver, Shamim, was stabbed to death allegedly by muggers on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Bishmail area of Savar, reports UNB.
Police said the miscreants intervened his way and attacked him with sharp weapon in the early morning, leaving him critically injured.
The muggers also snatched away his mobile phone and cash.
Local rickshaw-pullers rushed him to a nearby hospital at Savar Thana Road, where he was declared dead.
On information, Savar Model Police recovered the body from the hospital and sent it to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
As he was murdered in an area under Ashulia Police Station's jurisdiction, a murder case was filed there.
Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station Abdul Hannan said drives are underway to arrest the killers.
