‘Projonmo Chattar’ structure in Shahbagh demolished
A new installation commemorating July Uprising expected to be constructed in its place

The "Projonmo Chattar" structure in the capital city's Shahbagh intersection was demolished late on Saturday night.
During a visit to the site yesterday noon it was observed that the structure had been partially dismantled, with one side reduced to rubble.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said, "The structure falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. As it is within their authority, they carried out the demolition last night.
"I was informed in advance to ensure that no public gathering or unrest could take place. However, no resistance or crowd formation was reported," he said.
The OC further noted that, according to information provided by the ministry, a new installation commemorating last year's July Uprising is expected to be constructed at the site.
Notably, during the 2013 Shahbagh Movement, "Projonmo Chattar" became a symbol of the Liberation War's spirit and the public demand for the trial of war criminals. The structure preserved the memory of that movement.
