Shafiqul dismisses 'speculation' over Abdur Rashid's resignation as cabinet secy, says it was voluntary
The timing of the exit, just as the country prepares for the swearing-in of a new parliament and cabinet, has sparked speculation on social media.
Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today (15 February) posted a clarification to dismiss "misinformation and speculative narratives" surrounding the cancellation of Sheikh Abdur Rashid's contractual appointment as cabinet secretary.
In a Facebook post on his verified profile, Shafiqul clarified that Rashid had voluntarily sought to step down well before the 13th parliamentary election held on 12 February.
"In reality, due to personal reasons, he submitted his resignation to the chief adviser a few days before the election," the post read.
"However, as the polls were imminent, he agreed to continue until the election was over at the request of the chief adviser, to maintain discipline in the field administration and ensure continuity of operations," the press secretary wrote.
The clarification follows the Ministry of Public Administration's gazette notification yesterday (14 February) cancelling the remaining tenure of Rashid's contract, which began on 8 October 2024.
In another move, M Siraz Uddin Miah, the principal secretary to the chief adviser, was given additional charge of the Cabinet Division.
The timing of the exit, just as the country prepares for the swearing-in of a new parliament and cabinet, has sparked speculation on social media.
Addressing the rumours, Rashid told BDNews24 yesterday, "I resigned a few days ago. It was accepted today."
Shafiqul Alam urged all to refrain from spreading "unnecessary speculative information or misleading statements" regarding the matter.
Traditionally, the cabinet secretary handles the logistics of inviting new ministers to their swearing-in ceremonies.
