Mirza Abbas to be flown to Singapore for advanced treatment today
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is keeping a close watch on the condition of ailing Mirza Abbas
BNP Standing Committee Member and the prime minister's Political Adviser Mirza Abbas will be flown to Singapore at 6pm today (13 March) for advanced medical treatment.
BNP Media Cell member Sairul Kabir Khan today (13 March) said that Mirza Abbas is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital, and following doctors' advice, preparations are being made to transfer him to Singapore by air ambulance.
The air ambulance will land in Dhaka at 3pm today.
Additionally, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is keeping a close watch on the condition of ailing Mirza Abbas. "He (Abbas) has been kept in the Neuro ICU under close observation by doctors. The prime minister is regularly taking updates on his condition," said Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain, reports UNB
He said a medical board comprising senior neurologists has already been formed to oversee Abbas's treatment.
"Preparations have also been kept ready to take him abroad for advanced treatment if necessary, though the final decision will depend on the medical board," he added.
Zahid, also a BNP Standing Committee member, requested everyone to pray for the recovery of Mirza Abbas.
"We have contacted the National University Hospital in Singapore and made the necessary arrangements for his possible admission there. An air ambulance has also been kept ready," he said.
According to UNB, Zahid said that the medical board includes Prof Ali Uzzaman, Prof Sheikh Abdul Kader, Prof Zillur Rahman, Prof Din Mohammad, Prof Saeed Ahmed and Prof Zafar Iqbal, among others.
Mirza Abbas suddenly lost consciousness while drinking water during iftar on Wednesday (11 March). As his condition did not improve, he was admitted to the hospital later that night.
His wife, Afroza Abbas, president of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, has sought prayers from the people of the country for his speedy recovery.
