Work in unity for 'sheaf of paddy' in 12 Feb polls: Tarique to party leaders, activists
He also said he will not be able to give as much time as before or stay in Bogura for long, urging local leaders to take greater responsibility in campaigning.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today (31 January) urged party leaders and activists to work in unity for the "sheaf of paddy," his party's electoral symbol, in the 12 February polls, saying this election will not be easy.
During an exchange of views with grassroots-level BNP leaders at a hotel in Bogura this morning, Tarique said, addressing the leaders, that party members will have to go door to door to seek votes, stressing that victory will require collective effort.
"This election will not be easy. You must reach voters at their homes and work as the helmsmen of the sheaf of paddy," he said.
He also said he will not be able to give as much time as before or stay in Bogura for long, urging local leaders to take greater responsibility in campaigning.
Expressing his attachment to Bogura, Tarique said the BNP worked for the development of the district when in power and continued public welfare activities, including winter clothing distribution and flood relief, while in opposition.
He assured everyone that if the BNP forms government, the development of Bogura will be prioritised. "I know what needs to be done and where," he said.
Instructing party leaders to remain alert on polling day, he asked them to ensure voter turnout at centres and stay engaged until the results on 12 February.
Party sources said the meeting was convened to determine campaign strategies in support of Tarique's candidacy in Bogura-6. After the meeting, he left for Sirajganj later in the day.
