Without implementation of July Charter and referendum, we will not allow anything on our soil, warns Khelafat's Mamunul
He demanded an immediate government order to provide the charter an initial legal basis and urged a referendum to finalise it before the 13th parliamentary election.
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque today (11 November) warned that his party will block any move on Bangladesh's soil until the July Charter is legally implemented and ratified by a national referendum.
Speaking at a mass rally in Dhaka's Paltan, Mamunul said, "Without implementation of the July charter and referendum, we will not allow anything on our soil."
He demanded an immediate government order to provide the charter an initial legal basis and urged a referendum to finalise it before the 13th parliamentary election.
Mamunul further said the July Uprising provided the foundation for a new Bangladesh and that the charter should be treated as the blueprint for the country's future.
He also warned that holding a national election without first securing the charter's legal base and a referendum would create complications, including questions about how the upper house of a proposed bicameral parliament would be formed, and how parties would present manifestos and candidate lists for the upper house.
"We want to hear the reasons from those who oppose holding a referendum on the charter before the national election. They are conspiring to establish fascism in Bangladesh again," the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis ameer added.
Regarding banned Awami League's rally on 13 November, he said, "On 13 November we will not allow any Bakshal-style forces to take to the streets; if anyone attempts it, we will confront them on the road."
The rally at Paltan was attended by leaders and activists from eight Islamic parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, who pressed a five-point demand, including implementing the July Charter and holding a national referendum on it.
