We speak of changes, but why not a new Constitution? asks NCP's Akhtar
Constituent Assembly election could be moved up to December instead of February if parties agree, he says

NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain has said their party's demand for a Constituent Assembly election and a new Constitution is not a complex matter.
"It is a matter of political decision. If political parties decide that a Constituent Assembly election will be held next, then preparations can be made to hold it in December instead of February," he said while speaking to journalists after a meeting with the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
Akhtar Hossain said there will be two parts of the July Charter.
"One part will include the consensus issues of the July Charter. The other part will be a separate document outlining the implementation process of the July Charter.
"A suspicion and doubt has arisen among us [NCP] about whether situations are being created in various ways to obstruct the implementation of the July Charter," he said.
He continued that 19 issues in the reforms are directly related to the Constitution.
"No consensus has yet been reached on how to implement these reform proposals related to the constitution," he noted.
He further said a new Constitution is the only way and the only path to sustainably implement the related issues.
Calling upon all political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat, Akhtar said, "We have spoken of changes in so many areas of the Constitution. Why can't we then speak of a new Constitution? This is a question we need to ask ourselves.
"If we fail to make the reform proposals sustainable, then what answer will we give to those who were martyred in the 2024 July Uprising?
