Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader today (10 May) said his party does not support banning any political party that believes in democratic norms and seeks to engage in systematic politics.

"We believe in multi-party democracy. Therefore, we are not in favour of banning any political party that adheres to constitutional politics," he said while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the central committee of the Jatiyo Chatra Samaj at the party's Banani office.

He pointed out that when the ruling Awami League government banned Jamaat-e-Islami, the Jatiya Party protested the move.

"But if AL is to be banned today on charges of genocide, then what decision should be taken regarding the organisations that were directly or indirectly responsible for the mass killings during the 1971 Liberation War?" Quader questioned.
