Umama Fatema aspires to contend in Ducsu polls under independent panel
She said the Ducsu stands as the only structured and legitimate body that articulates the aspirations of the university’s students.

Umama Fatema, former spokesperson for Student Against Discrimination (SAD), has expressed her desire to contest in the upcoming election to the Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu), from an independent panel.
She made the announcement in a Facebook post last night (30 July).
Umama said the Ducsu stands as the only structured and legitimate body that articulates the aspirations of the university's students.
She said she believes that in Ducsu, students are seeking leaders who are not controlled by any group, and are unwavering in their commitment to student rights, and who will not turn the university into a mere factory for producing political figures.
"They [students] want leaders who are genuinely dedicated to enhancing the quality of education and building a research-oriented academic environment," she added.
Umama said they aim to form an independent panel comprised of students who have long been committed to student welfare and who genuinely care about the student community. "This panel will contest in the upcoming Ducsu election with the vision of promoting the overall well-being of the university through research-driven and forward-thinking initiatives."
She also invited students who are keen and committed to enhancing the welfare of their fellow students to join her independent forum.
The long-awaited Ducsu election is scheduled to take place on 9 September, from 8am to 3pm. Chief Returning Officer Prof Mohammad Jashim Uddin announced the schedule on 29 July at a press conference.
