Tarique to visit Rajshahi tomorrow after 22 years
Tarique will land at Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi and proceed directly to the rally venue at the Rajshahi Alia Madrasa ground
BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is set to visit Rajshahi after more than two decades. He will address an election rally at the city's historic Madrasa ground tomorrow (29 January).
The rally, jointly organised by three districts, will see Tarique Rahman speak as the chief guest. His visit has sparked renewed enthusiasm among BNP leaders and activists, with local party leaders preparing for what they hope will be the largest political gathering in Rajshahi's history.
BNP leaders said Tarique Rahman last visited Rajshahi in 2004 to attend a union representatives' conference. After 22 years, he is scheduled to return to the city tomorrow to address an election rally at the historic Madrasa ground.
Apart from the election campaign, the visit has generated renewed enthusiasm among BNP leaders and activists in Rajshahi, who hope to directly place key development issues of the region before the party chief.
The massive rally is being organised jointly by Rajshahi, Natore and Chapainawabganj districts.
From the rally stage, the BNP chairperson is expected to introduce 13 parliamentary candidates from the three districts formally. Local leaders are therefore anticipating a huge turnout. After the Rajshahi rally, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to leave for Bogura via Naogaon later the same day.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the historic ground today, party leaders said all preparations for Tarique Rahman's Rajshahi visit have already been finalised. Central BNP leaders have inspected the rally venue and preparation activities on several occasions.
Rajshahi Divisional Organising Secretary Syed Shaheen Shawkat said, "All preparations have been completed in Rajshahi ahead of the party chief's arrival. Leaders and activists from Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, and Natore will attend the election rally, where Tarique Rahman will speak in the afternoon."
He added, "The visit has inspired not only party activists but also the general public. As Tarique Rahman's roots are in Rajshahi, he is coming here driven by the people's affection. Tomorrow, that outpouring of love will be reflected in Rajshahi."
Mizanur Rahman Minu, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Rajshahi Sadar constituency, said, "Tarique Rahman will bring a message for Rajshahi and the wider northern region, through which the people of the country will move forward."
