Swechhasebak Dal leader expelled over 'harassment' of former Ctg OC

Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal today (7 January) expelled its member secretary Shahidul Islam Shahid in Chattogram's Chawk Bazar for his involvement in the harassment of former Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Nezam Uddin.

In a press release, Swechhasebak Dal's Office Secretary M Abu Bakkar Raju, stated Shahidul has been expelled from all party positions, including primary membership, due toallegations of involvement in anti-party activities.

The decision, authorised by the organisation's Chattogram Metropolitan President HM Rashid Khan and General Secretary Belayet Hossain Bulu.

According to media reports, the incident occurred around 2:30pm yesterday near the passport office in the Panchlaish residential area.

A video circulating on social media shows that activists assaulting the former OC, grabbing him by the collar and tearing his shirt.

Later, he was handed over to the Panchlaish Model Police Station. Alleged BNP and its affiliated organisations gathered at the police station, accusing Nezam Uddin of various forms of torture and harassment.

Md Nezam Uddin has previously held several significant postings, including serving as OC of Kotwali, Bakalia and Sadarghat police stations in Chittagong.

He was recently transferred from Patiya Police Station to Comilla, where he now serves as an inspector with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
