Praising their hard work and sacrifices, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has told the party's leaders to remain united as they will hopefully reach very soon the destination they have longed for.
She made the remarks last night (31 March) while exchanging greetings with party leaders on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr through video conference, according to a post shared on the verified Facebook page of the BNP Media Cell.
"You have worked very hard and made sacrifices for the party. Now, you all just stay united — InshaAllah, you will surely reach your desired destination soon," said the former three-time prime minister -- who is likely to return to Bangladesh from London in mid-April.
"Win the hearts of people, especially the youth, with love and affection and keep them by your side," she told the party leaders.
The greetings exchange programme was attended by leaders of the party's standing committee, central committee, and affiliated organisations.
At the time, Khaleda was accompanied by her son Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP, and Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
The programme was organised at the BNP chairperson's office in Dhaka's Gulshan at 9pm yesterday, with a large screen displaying the party chief connecting from London.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic and her conditional release from jail, Khaleda had continued the tradition of exchanging Eid greetings with the party's Standing Committee members at her residence, "Firoza", in Gulshan.
However, after travelling to London on 8 January for better treatment, she celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr yesterday with family members at Tarique's house in London.
While conveying Eid greetings, Khaleda urged the people of Bangladesh to remain united in the struggle for voting rights, reports UNB.
She said, "Your sacrifices and struggles have not been in vain and will not be. We must establish democracy, and for that, everyone must remain united. We must cooperate with one another.
"We must all unite to restore the voting rights of the citizens of the country."
During the greetings exchange, the BNP chairperson became emotional and urged the party leaders and workers to remain in constant communication with the people of Bangladesh.
"I am sending my Eid greetings to the people of the country, Eid Mubarak," she said, before concluding by asking for prayers from everyone.

Tarique also exchanged Eid greetings with the party leaders.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir conveyed Eid Mubarak on behalf of party leaders to the chairperson during the greetings exchange.
Later, Khaleda participated in a special prayer for her swift recovery.
The party's Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku moderated the event, according to the BNP Media Cell.
Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Mahmud Tuku, Zamir Uddin Sirkar, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Selima Rahman, party leaders Barkat Ullah Bulu, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, and Gazipur District BNP Convener KM Fazlul Haque Milon also joined the meeting.
Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas and General Secretary Sultana Ahmed, Nationalist Lawyers Forum President Joynal Abedin, and Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Haque also attended it.
