BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is likely to return to Bangladesh from London in the middle of next month.

"What I have heard is that Madam (Khaleda) will return home in mid-April, but it is still not certain," he said today (30 March) while speaking to reporters at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office.

The BNP leader also said Khaleda Zia's health condition has improved in London, where she is celebrating Eid with her family.

"Eid is being celebrated there today (Sunday). She is celebrating this Eid with her family after eight years," he said.

Khaleda is celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with her eldest son, Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, their daughter Zaima Rahman, her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko's wife Shamila Rahman, and her two granddaughters, Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman.

Speaking to UNB from London, her personal doctor AZM Zahid Hossain said the BNP chief's family members have made all the necessary arrangements for Eid, ensuring that she can share the joy of the occasion with her loved ones. "You can understand that there are a lot of emotions involved here," he added.

This marks Khaleda Zia's third Eid celebration in London, following her stays during the 2017 and 2015 Eid events.

Zahid mentioned that the BNP chief is now mentally strong and in stable health. "She is much better now than she was before."

He said Khaleda has been receiving treatment at home under the supervision of Professors Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross from The London Clinic since being discharged from the hospital on 25 January.

Asked about the possibility of Khaleda returning to Bangladesh, Dr Zahid said she could return any time after Eid, depending on the advice of her medical board. "I hope she'll return home very soon at the medical board's decision, as her condition is now stable."

Khaleda went to London on 8 January for advanced medical care and was admitted to The London Clinic.

After being discharged from the clinic on 25 January, the BNP chairperson moved to Tarique Rahman's residence, where she has been receiving treatment under the supervision of Professor John Patrick Kennedy and Professor Jennifer Cross.

The 79-year-old former Prime Minister has long been suffering from several health conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney and heart issues, diabetes, and arthritis.
