Shafiqur pledges Bogura city corporation, 2nd Jamuna bridge, Shaheed Chandu Stadium revival
Shafiqur said the promised bridge and stadium projects would benefit both Bogura and Gaibandha residents.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that if his party is given the responsibility to govern, the northern district of Bogura will be upgraded to a city corporation, a long-demanded second Jamuna bridge will be built, and the neglected Shaheed Chandu Stadium will be revived to host international matches.
Referring to Bogura as the heart of northern Bangladesh during an election rally today (24 January) at the Altafunnesa field in the district, the Jamaat chief also outlined his party's plans for state reform, economic development, and public welfare.
Shafiqur said the promised bridge and stadium projects would benefit both Bogura and Gaibandha residents.
He emphasised that the stadium, which he said has suffered due to political violence, would regain its former life and international matches would return.
Addressing economic issues, he claimed nearly Tk28 lakh crore was embezzled in the past fifteen and a half years. He said Jamaat would work to recover these funds and ensure they are used for public development.
On rising prices, he blamed extortion, saying it prevents farmers from receiving fair prices and forces consumers to pay more.
Talking about women's empowerment, he stated that ensuring women's dignity and safety is the state's responsibility and that Islam does not prevent women from working.
To the youth, he said Jamaat would not provide handouts but create direct employment opportunities, allowing young people to earn a living with self-respect.
He added that all development would come from public funds, not personal wealth. He promised to fight corruption, extortion, and misuse of power, ensuring honesty and transparency in governance.
Shafiqur said if the Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, Bogura will rise as a model city in northern Bangladesh.
