The third phase of election in 1,007 union parishads and the eighth phase of polls in 10 municipalities is scheduled to be held on 28 November.

The last date for submitting nomination papers for the posts of chairman as well as general and reserved seats for women is 2 November, said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Humayun Kabir Khandaker while announcing the schedule at a press conference after a meeting at the EC building in the capital's Agargaon on Thursday.

Nomination papers will be selected on 4 November. The last date for withdrawing an application is 11 November. Electronic voting machines will be used in the 10 municipalities and 31 union parishads, he added.

The municipalities are Lakshmipur Sadar in Lakshmipur, Bera in Pabna, Senbagh in Noakhali, Pirganj in Rangpur, Galachipa in Patuakhali, Ghatail in Tangail, Tarash in Sirajganj, Srimangal in Moulvibazar, Kaliakair in Gazipur and Nilphamari Sadar in Nilphamari.

The EC secretary said authorities had taken into consideration the schedule of SSC and HSC examinations before fixing the date for the election.

Earlier in the first phase, polls were held on 21 June in 204 union parishads and in 160 union parishads on 20 September. The second phase is scheduled to be held in 848 union parishads on 11 November.

At present, there are 4,483 union parishads in the country. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the EC could not arrange any election in the unions where the tenure of chairman and councillor has expired.
