People must be politically empowered: Tarique
He stressed that elections are a key mechanism for empowering citizens and ensuring their rights.

BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman today (19 August) called for the need to politically empower the people, stating that the exercise of the right to directly vote for representatives strengthens citizens within the state and the political system.
"Without a politically empowered populace, the state and government cannot become truly strong," he said while virtually addressing an event in Dhaka, marking the 45th anniversary of Swechasebak Dal.
Highlighting concerns over statements by some politicians regarding the timing of elections, he called for unity among all pro-democracy parties.
Tarique warned that any division among parties would create opportunities for the resurgence of fascist forces in politics and governance.
He further stressed that elections are a key mechanism for empowering citizens and ensuring their rights. "Imposing conditions that obstruct political rights would threaten the progress of democracy."
The BNP leader cautioned that if democracy falters and people cannot establish their rights, the entire country would face consequences.
