Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman has greeted the countrymen on the occasion of Bangla New Year, saying this day returns to the life of the nation again and again in various forms and variations.

"Our culture and tradition are a strong foundation built since the distant past. Tradition, culture and human values together build a well-organised nation. Pahela Boishakh is a bright element in the identity of the nation," Tarique said in a post on his verified Facebook page this afternoon (13 April).

Calling for optimism in the New Year, the BNP leader said, "Every year, Pahela Baishakh inspires us to move forward on the path of excellence in the future, inspired by the light of the past. The past glory and opulence of our nation are transmitted to our hearts."

Pahela Baishakh will remove divisions among people: Mirza Fakhrul

Highlighting the relevance of establishing democracy in the present time, Tarique Rahman said, "Now we need a vibrant democracy. For this, we need the people's liberal outlook and ensuring the coexistence of many opinions based on culture and tradition."

In the context of ongoing instability and violence around the world, he said, "The year 1431 has witnessed various incidents and accidents. We are standing at the dawn of the year 1432. Just waiting for peace will not work, the solution must be selfless. Only then will the bloodshed stop and peace prevail."

Fascists must not be allowed to destroy nation’s culture: Rizvi

He said the foreign hegemonic masters are moving forward with a grand plan to spread cultural dominance in order to break the close bond of language and culture that has been established since ancient times.

"We must also be aware of this and always be vigilant. We must shake off the fatigue, disappointment and sorrow of the past and move forward with new enthusiasm," he added.

Expressing the hope that on the occasion of the Bengali New Year, the nation can move forward with new hopes and new goals, Tarique Rahman said, "On the first day of the New Year, I wish everyone well-being and peace. May untruth, injustice, lawlessness and unrest be erased from society with the warmth of Baishakh. May the breeze of peace flow all around. I once again extend my greetings and congratulations to the countrymen on the first light of the new dawn of the 1432 Bengali year."
