No need for a new Bangladesh without drafting a new constitution: Nahid
“The constitution in the past has failed to protect human rights. Trust and relationship between the state and the people can be created through a new constitution,” he said

There is no need for a new Bangladesh unless a new constitution is drafted, National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam said today (11 May).
"The constitution in the past has failed to protect human rights. Trust and relationship between the state and the people can be created through a new constitution," he said.
Nahid made the remarks at a discussion, titled "Constitutional reform proposal and its possible method of implementation", organised by the Citizen Coalition at the auditorium of the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.
He added, "We need to move forward to bring fundamental reforms. Agreeing on unimportant topics while disagreeing on fundamental issues will not bring any results."
Stating that there can be no objection about elections if a consensus is reached about reforms, Nahid further said, "I hope that we will be able to go forward quickly through compromise."
