No alternative to February polls, Khasru says, citing CA-Tarique London meeting
Khasru highlighted that the people of Bangladesh want stability, tolerance, mutual respect, and democracy

Organising the national election in the first half of February next year is the only viable way to restore democratic ownership of the people, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said.
He made the remarks citing the recent London meeting between BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman and CA Yunus, where Khasru was present.
As the chief guest at a conference of the Bangladesh Teachers Association (North District) at a community centre in Chattogram today (19 July), Khasru further said discussions regarding reforms and consensus are currently underway, which is appropriate, but the government should squander time beyond this. "According to the London meeting, there is no alternative to holding elections in early February."
Khasru highlighted that the people of Bangladesh want stability, tolerance, mutual respect, and democracy. "Election is the only path through which the people can choose their representatives."
The BNP leader also urged party activists to prepare for the election. "I still believe we are moving toward an election in early February. We must work together to ensure a free, fair, and credible election. Let us unite in preparing for that."
Pointing to those he believes are obstructing the electoral process, Khasru said, "Anyone unwilling to take part in elections should get a clear message— the people want democracy and ownership of their country. If you do not believe in voting, then why even form a political party?"
Khasru also underscored the need for a new political trend aligned with public expectations, adding, "In the wake of Sheikh Hasina's departure, a considerable change will emerge in the collective mindset of the public. If any party or leader fails to understand this shift, they have no political future in Bangladesh."
The conference was inaugurated by BNP chairperson's Adviser Aslam Chowdhury, and chaired by Chattogram North BNP Convenor Towhidul Islam.
Teachers and Employees Unity Alliance Chairman Md Selim Bhuiyan and its Chattogram chapter President MA Safa Chowdhury also spoke, among others.
