NCP suspends July march in southern region until 18 July amid flood crisis
However, the suspension doesn’t follow for the northern region schedule.
Highlights:
- Flood crisis prompt change in campaign schedule
- Postponed events to be held later
- Northern programme to continue as planned
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has suspended its ongoing July march programme across southern region of Bangladesh from 15 to 18 July, citing the loss of lives and widespread disruption caused by floods in Chattogram and several other districts.
The party announced the decision today (14 July), saying the suspension was prompted by the prevailing humanitarian situation in the flood-hit areas.
Under the revised schedule, the previously planned marches in Nagarkanda and Faridpur Sadar, Madaripur Sadar, Bhola Sadar, Babuganj in Barishal, Amtali in Barguna and Patuakhali Sadar will not be held during the suspension period.
The NCP said the postponed programmes would be rescheduled, with a revised timetable to be announced later.
The southern leg of the July march will resume on 19 July, with events scheduled at 3:00pm in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi and at 6:00pm in Nesarabad upazila of Pirojpur.
Meanwhile, the party said its northern programme would proceed as planned.
According to the previously announced schedule, the July march will be held at 3:00pm in Mokamtala, Bogura, and at 6:00pm in Joypurhat Sadar on 15 July.
