Nation still in darkness after 54 years of independence due to lack of moral education: Jamaat ameer

Due to lack of real moral education, the nation has not been freed from darkness even after 54 years of independence, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said today (15 March).
"Although 54 long years have passed since independence and power has changed hands many times, the goals and objectives with which we liberated the country have not been fulfilled today," he said at an iftar mahfil of Jamaat-e-Islami in honour of national leaders, representatives of various organisations, professionals, educationists, poets and writers, doctors, journalists, researchers, businessmen and stakeholders from different levels of society at the Bangladesh China Friendship International Conference Center in Dhaka.
"The expectations of the people of the country have not been fulfilled. Since independence, unrest has been going on in this country. Oppression and torture have never stopped," he added.
Regarding the reforms, the Jamaat chief said, "We are calling on the interim government to complete the reforms within a reasonable time and hold elections as soon as possible."
"There may be differences of opinion among the parties and those who participated in the uprising, but there should not be disagreements. Having differences of opinion is the beauty of a democratic state," he added.
