Legal notice seeks bar on 2024 election candidates from contesting upcoming polls
They supported genocide during the July Uprising, said SAD Chief Coordinator Hasib Al Imran
The Students against Discrimination (SAD) has served a legal notice to the chief election commissioner (CEC), demanding that candidates who contested in the previous national election in 2024 be barred from running in the upcoming national election set to take place on 12 February 2026.
A delegation of SAD served the notice during a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at his office today (17 December).
After the meeting, SAD President Rifat Rashid said, "We have served a legal notice to ensure that those who contested in the dummy election of 2024 cannot become candidates again."
SAD Chief Coordinator Hasib Al Imran said, "In the 2024 election, many became MPs even outside the Awami League. They supported genocide during the July Uprising. Therefore, none of those who were candidates in that dummy election should be allowed to contest in the 2026 election."
"We have served the legal notice to ensure that they won't be able to participate under any circumstances," he added.
