Khelafat Majlis demands fair seat‑sharing to keep the 11‑party alliance intact

The Khelafat Majlis has said to fulfil the nation's expectations in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, it is essential to keep the Jamaat-e-Islami led 11‑party alliance intact, and for that a "fair and honourable" seat‑sharing arrangement is necessary.
After an emergency meeting of the Central Majlis-e Shura at the capital's Shahjahanpur area this afternoon (14 January), the party in a press release stated that it has already been working as a party of the 11-party alliance.
"However, in recent discussions, many important candidates and constituencies of Khelafat Majlis have been left outside the settlement, which triggered concern in the party," reads the release.
Khelafat warned that this could harm not only the party, the entire alliance.
The party reaffirms its commitment to move forward with the 11-party electoral seat-sharing arrangement in the interest of the nation.
However, they also demanded a minimum representation for the party in promising and winnable constituencies through a "fair and honourable" agreement.
According to party sources, at least 74 Khelafat candidates submitted nomination papers, of which the Election Commission declared 72 valid.
The session was presided over by Khelafat Majlis Ameer‑e‑Majlis Abdul Basit Azad. Conducted by Secretary General Ahmad Abdul Kader, the meeting was attended by leaders of the Central Executive Council and Majlis‑e‑Shura.
Meanwhile, the Islami Andolan also reaffirmed to move forward with the Jamaat led 11-party alliance today.
"It is too early to say that we have left the alliance or expelled anyone. We are still trying to maintain unity," the party's Joint Secretary General and spokesperson Gazi Ataur Rahman said.
