Khaleda responding to treatment, condition will hopefully improve: Dr Zahid
The former prime minister has been in critical condition at Evercare Hospital since late November, where she is on elective ventilator support and receiving intensive care for multiple serious complications.
BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia is responding to the treatment, and the medical board is hopeful that her physical condition will improve, according to her personal physician.
Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, who is also a BNP Standing Committee member, shared the development while addressing the media in front of Evercare Hospital in the capital this afternoon (18 December).
"Khaleda Zia will recover and be able to play her proper role in the country's politics," he said, adding that she is recovering under medical supervision and following prescribed treatment, with her condition remaining stable in recent days.
Dr Zahid alleged that inadequate medical care while she was in prison has worsened her health, which is why she is going through a particularly difficult period.
The former prime minister has been in critical condition at Evercare Hospital since late November, where she is on elective ventilator support and receiving intensive care for multiple serious complications.
She has long been suffering from a number of chronic and complex health problems, including liver complications, kidney disease, heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis and recurring infections.
While staying at her Gulshan residence recently, Khaleda developed shortness of breath, cough, fever and increased weakness.
As her condition worsened, the former prime minister was admitted to Evercare Hospital on 23 November. Following tests, doctors found a rapid deterioration in the functions of her lungs, heart and kidneys.
The BNP chairperson was immediately shifted from a cabin to the Critical Care Unit for advanced treatment and close monitoring.
