Nahid urges govt to hold next election based on July Charter
He called on the government to resolve the issue of the July Charter by 5 August.

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today (2 August) urged the interim government to hold the next national election based on the July Charter.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party's temporary office in the capital's Banglamotor this afternoon (2 August), he called on the government to resolve the issue of the July Charter by 5 August.
The NCP leader also demanded that the July Declaration be granted constitutional recognition by including it in both the preamble and schedules of the Constitution.
"We've learned from the government that the July Declaration may be officially announced on 5 August. We had also requested that the July Charter be finalised by then," he said.
"However, the Consensus Commission has yet to clarify how the matters raised in the note of dissent will be addressed. We've emphasised that the July Charter must have a legal foundation, and the next election should be based on it," he added.
Nahid urged students and people of the July uprising to gather at the Central Shaheed Minar at 4pm tomorrow.
Acknowledging potential public inconvenience, Nahid said, "There is an HSC exam and a Chhatra Dal programme in Dhaka tomorrow. We thank Chhatra Dal for relocating their event upon our request. We regret any disruption caused by the overlap of two programmes in the same area."
On recent allegations of extortion involving student leaders, Nahid said, "Those found involved must be held accountable and face appropriate punishment."
