Jatiyo Party is the opposition in parliament: Obaidul Quader
He said the political party with the second highest number of seats in the election will be the main opposition party

If a political party takes on the role of the opposition in parliament, then the Jatiyo Party is the designated opposition, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
"Independent candidates [who won the 12th national polls] are independent. The party with the second highest number of seats won in the election will be the main opposition party. Then you [journalists] can assume that they [Jatiyo Party] will be the opposition," he told reporters at the Awami League president's office at Dhanmondi in the capital on Monday (22 January).
Regarding the BNP, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said he does not see the party in a good position.
"They [BNP] have made their position clear. They did not participate in the election for fear of losing. They even failed to get people to boycott the election. I do not see them in a strong position. However, I do not want to say that they are weak as a party [either]," he said.
Quader said the BNP is now spreading rumours at home and abroad. Commodity prices are rising all over the world but the BNP are saying it is happening only in Bangladesh.
The Awami League leader said, "If the BNP had moved forward with their politics of doing positive, they would not have fallen so suddenly. In their attempts to topple the government, they have fallen into a pit."
