Jatiyo Party, 14-party alliance will face fate similar to fascists: Jamaat's Mujibur
The Jatiyo Party and the 14-party alliance will ultimately face the same fate as the fallen "fascist regime" due to their collaborations in the past, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Mujibur Rahman said today (19 September).
Speaking at a rally in front of the Barishal City Corporation premises, organised to press for the party's five-point charter of demands, he said, "People were deprived of their rights in previous elections. The next election must be free and fair."
Jamaat's five demands include: holding the next national election in February based on the July National Charter; introducing the PR system in both houses of parliament in the upcoming election; ensuring a level playing field for all for a free, fair and acceptable election; visible trial of all oppression, killings, and corruption by the fallen fascist regime; and banning the activities of the Jatiyo Party and 14-party alliance, which it termed as collaborators of autocracy.
Stressing the need for implementing the July Charter and holding elections under a Proportional Representation (PR) system, Mujibur said, "PR voting ensures the value of every vote. The people want it, and it is essential for a transparent and people-oriented election."
Following the rally, a procession paraded key streets of the city before returning to the original venue.
