Jamaat welcomes tribunal's decision to schedule verdict against Hasina
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has said today (13 November) that the party welcomes the International Crimes Tribunal's (ICT) decision to fix a date for delivering the verdict against Sheikh Hasina.
"After the July uprising, this was the demand and aspiration of the people," he said.
"If the existing law of the tribunal prescribes the highest punishment for the offences, then that punishment should be given accordingly. No injustice should be done. We have left this to the law and the judges," Porwar made the remarks at a press conference held at Jamaat's central office.
Porwar stated that Awami "terrorists" attempted acts of arson and sabotage in different parts of the country but were resisted by the public.
"Jamaat-e-Islami and eight patriotic political parties stood on the streets to resist that violence. We have been able to keep today's situation calm; the fascist force could not stand before the people," Porwar said.
"Hasina is a fugitive accused; her trial is ongoing. Yet she is threatening the nation using Indian media and technology," he added.
Porwar said that to resist the Awami League's acts of sabotage, Jamaat leaders and activists were stationed at 14 key points across Dhaka city today.
