Jamaat chief Shafiqur hails peaceful, competitive Ducsu election
Shafiqur Rahman congratulated the interim government, the university authorities, law enforcement agencies, journalists and all others involved in conducting a free, fair, credible and peaceful election

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today (10 September) extended his "sincere thanks" to the winners of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections, as well as to everyone involved in the electoral process, hailing the polls as peaceful and competitive.
In a statement, the Jamaat chief said, "The students of DU participated peacefully in a festive environment, while the candidates made the election competitive by contesting actively. I sincerely thank all those who have been elected."
"I hope they will rise above party identities and serve as true representatives of the student community," he added.
Shafiqur congratulated the interim government, the university authorities, law enforcement agencies, journalists and all others involved in conducting a free, fair, credible and peaceful election.
He also expressed condolences over the death of Channel S journalist Tarikul Islam Shibli, who passed away while covering the Ducsu election yesterday.
In the results, the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir panel "Oikyoboddho Shikkharthi Jote" won all three top positions. Notably, Shibir is the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Shibir's Md Abu Shadik Kayem became the Ducsu vice-president securing 14,042 votes; SM Farhad won the general secretary post with 10,794 votes; and Md Mohiuddin Khan received 11,772 votes to win the assistant GS position.
