Jamaat ameer hospitalised with three heart blockages; doctors recommend bypass surgery
"The exact date of the surgery has not been decided yet," his personal assistant Nazrul Islam
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has been admitted to United Hospital in Dhaka after doctors discovered three significant blockages in his heart and recommended immediate bypass surgery, reports bdnews24.com.
According to his personal assistant Nazrul Islam, the heart condition was diagnosed following a sudden collapse on stage while delivering a speech during the party's national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on 19 July.
Subsequent tests, including an angiogram conducted under the supervision of cardiologist Dr Mominuzzaman yesterday (30 July), revealed the blockages.
"Doctors advised bypass surgery instead of angioplasty," said Nazrul, noting that Shafiqur remains in a "relatively stable" condition.
He added that the Jamaat chief was admitted around 11am as part of a routine health check-up and underwent the angiogram at approximately 4pm the same day. "The exact date of the surgery has not been decided yet."
