Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad announces full panel for Jucsu polls
While BGCS and Shibir have announced their full panels, Chhatra Dal and leftist student bodies have not done so yet
Bangladesh Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGCS) has announced its full panel for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu) elections.
The panel will contest under the title "Shikkharthi Oikyo Forum" (Student Unity Forum).
The announcement was made today (22 August) at around 3:45pm at the university's Central Shaheed Minar.
According to the announced panel, Arifuzzaman Ujjal, the current convener of the BGCS JU unit, is a candidate for the vice president (VP) post. Abu Towhid Md Siam, the member secretary, is a candidate for the general secretary (GS) position.
Zia Uddin Ayan is running for assistant general secretary (AGS) post, while Maliha Namlah has been named as a candidate for the female joint assistant general secretary (JAGS) post.
The BGCS began its journey in February, with most of its founding members coming from the Students Against Discrimination platform.
While BGCS and the Islamic Chhatra Shibir have announced their full panels for the Jucsu election, other major student organisations, including the BNP-affiliated Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and leftist student bodies, have not done so yet, despite their nominations being accepted.
JU Chhatra Dal convener Jahiruddin Mohammad Babar told The Business Standard, "Our panel formation is complete, and we have finalised the list of candidates and their positions."
"However, we have not announced it yet because there is more than one candidate for some of the same posts," he said, adding that the panel would be announced within a day or two.
