Efforts are underway to erase memory of '71 Liberation War, alleges Fakhrul
Fakhrul also warned that a form of extremism is on the rise in Bangladesh and must not be allowed to grow, as it poses a threat to the country’s very spirit and existence.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that there are deliberate efforts to erase the memory of Bangladesh's 1971 Liberation War, urging citizens to remain united in safeguarding the nation's history and spirit.
"Just as the July uprising is true, so is the nine-month of Liberation War. There is a covert attempt to make us forget 1971, and citizens must unite against it," he said while speaking at a Janmashtami greetings exchange programme at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka today (21 August).
Fakhrul also warned that a form of extremism is on the rise in Bangladesh and must not be allowed to grow, as it poses a threat to the country's very spirit and existence.
"If we let this extremism grow, the soul and existence of Bangladesh will not survive," he said.
The BNP leader urged political parties to avoid divisive politics, noting that past mistakes should not dictate the future. "For the existence of Bangladesh, to move it forward, to make it more developed, we must all work together with unity," he added.
Highlighting the subcontinent's history, Fakhrul noted that communalism has often been used as a political weapon in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. He urged all communities to rise above such divisions.
"We must build a Bangladesh where there will be no discrimination among people of different faiths, where truth, justice, and human values will prevail," Fakhrul said.
