EU election observation team asks Jamaat about agenda if party comes to power
“In response, the Jamaat ameer highlighted three priorities — introducing an education system that builds ethical, skilled, technical, productive, and humane citizens; establishing a corruption-free society; and ensuring social justice,” Porwar said.

The visiting high-level delegation of the European Union Election Observation Mission has asked Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami what its main agenda would be if the party assumes responsibility for governing the country.
During a courtesy meeting at Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman's office in Bashundhara today (28 September), the delegation raised the question, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar told journalists after the meeting, according to a press release.
"In response, the Jamaat ameer highlighted three priorities — introducing an education system that builds ethical, skilled, technical, productive, and humane citizens; establishing a corruption-free society; and ensuring social justice," Porwar said.
The EU delegation included election observation and follow-up expert Mette Bakken and legal expert Manuel Wally, along with Baiba Zarina, deputy head of delegation of the European Union Mission to Bangladesh.
They discussed the upcoming national election and observation activities and informed the Jamaat ameer that their mission plans to deploy observers in all 64 districts and will publish a detailed report after the election.
Porwar added that Jamaat reiterated its position that while it is ready to participate in the upcoming February polls, it will do so only on the condition that the July Charter is given legal recognition.
At the meeting, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman told the delegation that, beyond election observation, the European Union's technical support is essential to ensure a free, fair, credible, and impartial election, reads the press release.
