Elections under the interim government's roadmap will only be possible if justice, reforms, the July Charter and declaration are implemented, and a level playing field for all political parties is ensured, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after offering Eid-ul-Adha prayers at his childhood village Eidgah in Tulapur Panchgaon under Bhatera union of Moulvibazar's Kulaura upazila this morning (7 June).

"The nation does not want a make-shift election. If justice, reforms, the July Charter and its declaration are implemented, and a level playing field is created, then elections as per the roadmap can be held," Dr Shafiqur said in response to a journalist's question.

"For three consecutive terms, the people have not had the opportunity to vote. This time, we must ensure young voters get to cast their ballots," he added.

"We will cooperate with the chief adviser if he seeks our assistance. However, resolving the national crisis is crucial to holding free and fair elections," he noted.

Earlier, in a brief message before the Eid prayers, Dr Shafiqur said, "Eid-ul-Adha is a symbol of sacrifice, submission, and a test of our devotion to Allah. On this blessed day, let our pledge be to unite against injustice, oppression, and corruption. To overcome the current crisis, the nation must unite on the path of truth, justice, and Islamic values."

The Jamaat chief also greeted and exchanged Eid wishes with locals after the prayer.

Among those present during the Eid congregation were Sylhet City Ameer and Jamaat Central Working Committee Member Md Fakhrul Islam, Moulvibazar Municipality Ameer Hafiz Tajul Islam, Islami Chhatra Shibir District President Md Nizam Uddin, Bhatera Union President Maulana Abdul Karim, and Ward Member Abdul Latif.

In his address, Dr Shafiqur talked about the lessons of sacrifice from the life of Prophet Ibrahim (A), and called on the people to unite to build a prosperous and just Bangladesh.
