Election must not be made controversial: Shafiqur
“If honest leadership comes through a fair election, the country can transform within five years," he said

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has warned against attempts to make the upcoming national election controversial.
Speaking at a views-exchange meeting in Moulvibazar's Kulaura today (8 June), he emphasised the need for a free, fair, and acceptable election, reads a press release.
"If honest leadership comes through a fair election, the country can transform within five years, InshaAllah... To honour the blood of the July uprising martyrs, we must ensure a proper election," he said.
"Foreign interference in the electoral process is not acceptable to the people of Bangladesh. Likewise, we do not wish to interfere in the affairs of other countries. We want to treat all as friends," he added.
The Jamaat leader called for a society free from vengeance. "I know who tried to label me a war criminal. But I will not seek revenge. A society based on revenge turns demonic. We want to build a humane society. However, those who have committed crimes must face justice — we will not compromise on that."
Addressing issues of corruption and exploitation, he said, "If we can strike at the roots of corruption and syndicates, these powerful groups will collapse. Bangladesh already has the resources it needs for transformation."
Shafiqur also emphasised the need to reform the education system. "We must replace miseducation with true education. The erosion of family structure due to cultural invasion is alarming. If our education curriculum is based on morality, only then will our education system be complete."
