Jamaat chief visits injured Osman Hadi at DMCH, calls shooting 'deeply alarming'

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep concern over the shooting of aspiring candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, Sharif Osman Hadi, saying such an incident, the day after the election schedule was announced, is deeply alarming.
"An incident like this cannot be downplayed in any way. The perpetrators must be arrested immediately, and the forces behind this incident must be clearly identified and presented before the nation," the Jamaat chief said while speaking to journalists after visiting the injured Hadi at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) today (12 December).
He visited Osman Hadi at the hospital to inquire about his condition, according to a statement posted on Jamaat's Facebook page. He also requested the people of the country to pray for Hadi's recovery.
Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, was shot in the head by unknown assailants on motorcycles in the capital's Paltan area today.
DMCH Director Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman said Hadi's condition is critical and he has been placed on life support.
"The bullet is still inside his head. We are taking all necessary measures," he said.
At 3:50pm, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Outpost, said that Hadi's condition was critical and he was being taken into the operation theatre for surgery.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP (Media and Public Relations Division), confirmed that Hadi was shot in the head by assailants on motorcycles in the Box Culvert Road area of Bijoynagar shortly after Jummah prayers at around 2:25pm.
He said that there were three attackers on a motorcycle who shot Hadi and fled the scene.
Hadi was rushed to DMCH following the incident.
