EC divided as 'spoils of war' among BNP, Jamaat, and advisers, claims NCP’s Nasiruddin Patwary

The Election Commission (EC) has been divided as "spoils of war" left behind by the Awami League and shared among BNP, Jamaat, and the advisers, National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has claimed.
"The mass uprising removed the Awami League, but they had organised this Election Commission according to their will for 15 years. What they left behind has now been divided by the advisers, BNP, and Jamaat," He made the remarks at a press briefing today (19 October).
After a four-member NCP delegation, led by the party's Chief Organiser Hasnat Abdullah, met with Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed to discuss the party's election symbol, Nasiruddin alleged that different groups had taken their share of influence within the commission.
"The army took one share, the BNP took one share, the Jamaat took one share. But we want to see the Election Commission as an institution of the people, not spoils of war of political parties or state agencies. The EC must now follow rules and regulations," he said.

The NCP leader further said those who weakened the EC in the last 15 years should be brought to justice.
"There are talks of trials for those who destroyed this institution, starting from election rigging. But no real changes have been made—only interchanging people," he said.
He added, "We do not want to hand over the Election Commission to any religion, political group, or family. We want the Election Commission to belong to the people. We have said, 'make the Election Commission independent'. Keep it as an independent institution."
