Cucsu unveils 46-point reform agenda in first executive meeting

The newly elected seventh cabinet of the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (Cucsu) held its first executive meeting today (4 Novemver), presenting 46 reform proposals covering housing, library and cafeteria upgrades, healthcare, research, technology, career and international programs, cultural activities, quotas, and sports.
Cucsu representatives said the university administration has expressed moral support and assured full implementation of the proposals, according to a press conference held today at the Cucsu office.
Vice President Ibrahim Roni highlighted key housing initiatives, including two new 10-storey residential halls and a Tk693 crore development proposal under Ecnec review. A special committee will monitor university cottages and rented accommodations, and the UGC will be approached to provide housing allowances for non-residential students. Measures to increase hall seating and form a student-teacher committee to manage the shortage were also proposed.
On transportation, Cucsu proposed city-bound bus services, student access on staff buses, and dedicated shuttle compartments for female students. Library improvements include an open zone and relaxed rules on carrying books. Health reforms at the university medical centre include increasing doctors, hiring a gynaecologist, launching an emergency hotline, and activating a new ambulance.
The council also proposed initiatives to promote research and innovation, including incentives for master's theses and monthly stipends for MPhil and PhD students. Technology upgrades include academic emails from the first year, increased storage, Wi-Fi improvements, online banking, faster result publication, and regular updates to departmental websites.
Science and engineering students will benefit from modernised labs and efforts to include programs in IEB accreditation. Cultural and sports reforms include renovating the Mozammel Haque Auditorium, upgrading the open stage, and securing university funding for programs.
Other officials at the press conference included Communications and Housing Secretary Ishak Bhuiyan, Sports Secretary Mohammad Shawon, Literature, Culture, and Publications Secretary Harezul Islam, and other representatives. The council also requested a detailed accounting of Cucsu funds over the past 35 years.
