Leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) today (5 October) urged the interim government to start discussions with major political parties to announce the election roadmap by reforming the electoral system.

During a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammand Yunus at his office, they also stated that citizens will be reassured of a fair election if they know about the scope of the reform commissions and the election roadmap, the LDA said in a press release.

"We think that it is imperative to amend the constitution as much as it needs to be amended for the purpose of fair and free elections," reads the release.

During the meeting, the leaders also raised concerns about rising commodity prices due to market syndicates, labour unrest and attacks on ethnic and religious minorities across the country.

They urged the government to ensure communal harmony in the country.
