Chhatra Dal panel will win if Ducsu polls are free and fair: Rizvi
The Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal panel would win the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) elections, if the polls are held in a free and fair manner, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has remarked.
"Chhatra Dal is a student organisation rooted in movement, struggle, and strong principles. If Dhaka University students are allowed to exercise their voting rights freely, the Chhatra Dal panel will undoubtedly emerge victorious," he said prior to a discussion meeting and rally organised by the Dhaka district BNP today, in celebration of the party's 47th founding anniversary.
Turning to national politics, Rizvi also raised concerns over the proposed use of the proportional representation (PR) system in national elections. Questioning its relevance and public understanding, he said, "What is the PR system? Can any ordinary citizen even explain it? Can villagers or the common people of this country grasp what it means? It has never been used here before. There's no precedent, and clearly, this is not what the people want."
Addressing party leaders and activists at the event, he asked, "Do you want elections under the PR system?" —to which the crowd immediately responded with chants of "No, no."
Rizvi emphasised that the people of Bangladesh prefer elections under a direct voting system, not a complex or unfamiliar model.
The discussion meeting was chaired by Dhaka district BNP President Khandakar Abu Ashfaq and moderated by General Secretary Nipun Roy.
