BNP’s note of dissent is actually a 'note of cheating': Nasiruddin Patwary
Patwary alleged that the BNP gave a note of dissent in the Public Service Commission (PSC) as a show of 'brotherhood'.
National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has termed the BNP's note of dissent in the National Consensus Commission as a "note of cheating".
"The BNP created the first division after the July Uprising. The party's note of dissent is actually a note of cheating," he said while addressing a seminar titled 'Implementation of the July Charter and the Future of National Election' at the party's temporary office in Dhaka's Bangla Motor.
The event was organised by Jatiya Jubo Shakti, youth wing of the NCP.
Patwary alleged that the BNP gave a note of dissent in the Public Service Commission (PSC) as a show of "brotherhood". "Such behaviour will not be allowed in the new Bangladesh. If the BNP tries to manipulate the commission in any way, the youth will resist them," he warned.
The NCP leader further alleged that while Jamaat-e-Islami publicly talks about the July Charter, it is privately negotiating for seats under the name of Proportional Representation (PR). He called the act hypocritical.
He added, "We believe the government must swiftly issue an ordinance to implement the recommended charter. Only [Chief Adviser Muhammad] Yunus has the authority to sign it."
On the issue of the newly listed 'Shapla Koli' symbol, Patwary said, "The Election Commission has given us the symbol in the new gazette. We do not understand on what basis this decision was made, but we are uncompromising on the 'Shapla' symbol."
He also demanded that the EC reissue a new gazette involving the Shapla symbol and warned that the NCP would launch a democratic movement at the EC office if the demand is not met.
Speaking at the same event, party's Joint Convenor Tasnim Jara said the NCP wants to sign the July Charter but the party first needs a clear roadmap for its implementation.
