BNP reinstates Sylhet leader expelled over Sada Pathor looting
The BNP has not provided further details regarding the grounds for lifting the suspension
The BNP has reinstated Sahab Uddin, president of Companiganj Upazila BNP and former vice-president of its Sylhet district unit, restoring all his party positions, including primary membership, months after he was expelled over the Sada Pathor looting incident.
The decision was confirmed in a letter signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today (1 January).
According to the letter, all suspension orders issued against Sahab Uddin have been withdrawn, and he has been reinstated to all his posts within the party.
Sahab Uddin was expelled in August last year amid widespread controversy surrounding the Sada Pathor looting incident, which sparked nationwide outrage. His name quickly surfaced in connection with the incident.
A suspension order issued from the BNP central office on the night of 11 August last year stated that Sahab Uddin was removed from all party posts based on "clear allegations" of involvement in activities contrary to the party's principles and ideals, including extortion, encroachment and other unethical conduct.
He was later arrested by RAB-9 from the Amberkhana area of Sylhet city on 13 September and released on bail in November.
The BNP has not provided further details regarding the grounds for lifting the suspension.
