BNP leader says unlocked Panchagarh premises was a warehouse, not Awami League office
He said the video was circulated to damage his political career and socially defame him.
The Panchagarh Sadar upazila BNP President has explained his role in a video that went viral on Facebook, showing the lock of an Awami League office being opened a day after the 13th national parliamentary election, Prothom Alo reports.
At a press conference at 11pm yesterday (13 February) in the Old Camp area of the district town, Abu Daud Pradhan said the location was not the Chaklahat union Awami League office, adding that he knew the room to be a warehouse.
He said the video was circulated to damage his political career and socially defame him.
Abu Daud, a three-time former chairman of Chaklahat union parishad, saw a crowd at Chaklahat Bazar yesterday morning while travelling from his village home to town.
According to the report, locals told him a Jamaat-e-Islami worker was not handing over the key to the warehouse.
He asked the worker to provide the key, after which the lock was opened. The key was later kept with the president of the local market traders' association.
He said there were no chairs, tables, or political signboards inside. He later learned the video was shared, claiming an Awami League office had been reopened.
Earlier, yesterday afternoon, footage of the incident went viral on social media. It showed Abu Daud standing on the veranda of the premises and giving a speech.
