BNP, Jamaat failed to meet public aspirations: Charmonai Pir
Explaining the decision to contest the upcoming 13th parliamentary election independently, Charmonai Pir said he had initially hoped to forge an alliance for the sake of Islamic unity.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, widely known as Charmonai Pir, today (25 January) claimed that both BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami have previously failed to fulfil the people's aspirations.
Addressing election rallies in Mymensingh, the IAB chief also criticised past regimes for making the country a "champion in corruption".
He vowed that if his party is voted to power, it will uproot corruption and build a "Bangladesh of public expectations," according to a media release.
Explaining the decision to contest the upcoming 13th parliamentary election independently, Charmonai Pir said he had initially hoped to forge an alliance for the sake of Islamic unity.
"I wanted to build an alliance in favour of Islamic principles with great hope. But when it became apparent that Jamaat-e-Islami was deviating from its commitment to implement Islamic ideals, we decided to chart our own path in the interest of Islam," he told a large gathering at the Krishnachura intersection in Mymensingh city.
He added that the party is not alone, as it enjoys the support of the general public and Islamic scholars.
"If members of parliament formulate the right policies and force the executive branch to be accountable, development will naturally reach every citizen. Therefore, instead of promising material development, talk about improving policies," he urged.
The IAB chief further remarked that for the past 54 years, the nation has heard many talks of development, but these were often overshadowed by "a revel of corruption, killings, disappearances, and money laundering".
He stated that IAB is working not just for a change in leadership, but for a fundamental shift in policy.
