BNP holds talks with visiting IRI delegation on electoral environment

A delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI), currently visiting Bangladesh, held a meeting with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to discuss the country's electoral environment ahead of the February 2026 parliamentary elections.
The meeting began at 12pm today (21 October) at the party chairperson's office in Gulshan, with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir leading the party delegation.
Other senior BNP leaders present included Standing Committee members Abdul Moyeen Khan and Salahuddin Ahmed, Chairperson's Advisory Council member Ismail Jabiullah, Organising Secretary Shama Obaid, Acting Chairman's Adviser Mahdi Amin, and International Affairs Secretary Rashedul Haque.
The IRI delegation was led by Board Member Christopher Fussner and Lisa Curtis, Senior Fellow at the Indo-Pacific Security Programme of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).
Other members of the team included IRI Technical Specialist Jessica Keegan and Resident Programme Director Steve Cima, among others.
The IRI, a non-profit and non-partisan organisation working to promote democracy and freedom globally, has deployed a pre-election assessment mission to Bangladesh from 20 to 23 October.
The delegation is holding meetings with political parties and stakeholders as part of its review of the electoral situation.
